It was in 1965 after going to see a friends Irish setter litter, that I fell in love with the breed, and of course one came home with us. As they showed, it was with their encouragement that I entered the ring with my new puppy and of course got hooked- the puppy being Wenfold Bracken. After moderate success at open shows a bitch arrived in the name
of Brackenfield Fan
On 5th May 1969 the Kennel Club granted the Crimbledale affix. In 1973 came the first litter from B. Fan and Sh Ch Twoacres Troilus and it is from the descendents of litter that brought about Sh Ch Crimbledale Golden Choice (Dog World top stud dog 1998) and his dual CC winning sister Crimbledale Golden Melody.Melody’s Daughter produced the other dual CC winning litter ShCh Crimbledale Country Gossip at Casperosso and Crimbledale WYSIWYG. Choice sired several CC winners including our own Ceannroe Lucky Charm at Crimbledale and Chorley's Sh Ch Kerryfair Loverboy .Not forgetting numerous other studbook number winners that have carried the affix and Mr and Mrs Blomme's Sh Ch Crimbledale Hello Dolly shown successfully on the continent.
In 1977 after meeting Mrs Armstead came the first English setter. With the Irish being so successful the English where only lightly exhibited but still stud book numbers where gained from the few puppies produced and again Mr and Mrs Blomme's Sh Ch Crimbledale Cool Capers gained her title on the continent. Cool Capers became 'Dutch Champion' and won the bitch CC at the Dutch Club Show at only 13 months. She produced children who are well known - Dutch Champion Norcroft Rhapsody and Dutch Champion Norcroft Temptation but also Norcroft Reflection and Dutch Champion Norcroft Rhythm. Mr and Mrs Blomme also did very well with her offspring, winning several times the bitch cc and twice BOB/BIS at the Dutch Breed Club Shows.
But in1997 came the deadly duo Roszarke First Appearance at C (2CC&2RCC) and Ravensett Martini at C (RCC). We are at present having much fun with First Appearance's children in the ring.
After 30yrs of interest and helping with friends King Charles' Spaniels, a Charlie finally owned us in 1998. Our first litter came in 2001 and produced 3 Crufts qualifiers for 2 years running and the Fry & Jackson’s C Regal Knight at Amantra who has already sired a RCC winning puppy. We are at present showing our second generation home bred puppy.
The Cavaliers are new to us and came with the untimely death of Mrs J Coates (Twoacres ) in 2000. We have shown them with some success with Twoacres Carol Singer ending 2003 unbeaten in her colour classes at champ shows it is hoped to show more in the future.
During the seventies my daughter Ellen, joined my interest in the showing and breeding of the dogs, handling many to their wins. She joined with the affix in 1998 and we must not forget the value of Rodney and Russell as back room boys. Sue has awarded CCs in Irish Setters for many years and also awards CCs in English Setters. She is secretary of Rossendale Canine Society, runs a ring training class and has served on Northern English Setter Society Committee. Ellen now awards CC s in Irish Setters and is on the Joint English Setter Breed Clubs 'B' list. She passed module 3 of The English Setter Joint Breed Clubs Educational Seminar. Ellen is also Vice Chairman of Rossendale Canine Society and has served on Northern English Setter Society Committee.
